Where the specs come from
The requirements appeared on METRO 2039's Epic Games Store page around the time pre-orders opened on October 13, 2026, and were first reported that day by the Russian site PlayGround.ru. We confirmed them on the Epic page on October 14, 2026.
Deep Silver said in its release date announcement that it would share "much more about the technology, specs and different modes powering all editions of METRO 2039 in the months between now and release". Expect a fuller breakdown, possibly with resolution and frame-rate targets, before February 4, 2027.
Reading the requirements
- No target is stated. Epic does not say which resolution, quality preset or frame rate each tier aims for, so you cannot read "recommended" as "4K" or "60 FPS".
- Only NVIDIA cards are listed. No AMD Radeon or Intel Arc graphics card appears in either tier as of 2026-10-14.
- Both listed GPUs are RTX cards with hardware ray tracing. Deep Silver calls METRO 2039 the first game in the series built "from the ground-up for ray tracing"; whether ray tracing can be turned off is not confirmed.
- The CPU floor is high. The minimum processors are recent, high-end chips, not entry-level ones.
- DDR5 is listed in both tiers. Note that AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D runs on the AM4 platform, which uses DDR4 memory, so the minimum line does not read literally for that CPU. We expect clarification in a later spec sheet.
- Recommended memory is 64 GB. That is unusually high for a game, so treat it as Epic's listing rather than a common baseline.
For context, the minimum RTX 3060 is a mid-range card from NVIDIA's RTX 30 series, while the recommended RTX 4090 was the top consumer card of the RTX 40 series. The gap between the two tiers is unusually wide, which is another reason to wait for official resolution and frame-rate targets before upgrading.
Storage: plan for 135 GB
Both tiers list 135 GB of free space. The listing does not say whether an SSD is required. If you are buying the Collector's or Deluxe Edition on PC, remember that the Story Expansion DLC arrives in 2027 and may need extra space later.
Operating system and stores
METRO 2039 is a Windows game. Steam lists Windows only, with no macOS or Linux version, and the Epic Games Store lists the platform as Windows. You can buy it on Steam, the Epic Games Store or Xbox on PC through the Microsoft Store. Physical PC editions contain a code-in-box; which store it activates on is not confirmed as of 2026-10-14.
Steam lists full controller support, DualShock and DualSense support, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. Steam Deck compatibility has not been rated or announced as of 2026-10-14.
Consoles as an alternative
If your PC falls short, the console versions have a confirmed target: a 60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing at launch on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. The first console gameplay trailer was captured on a PS5 Pro in Performance Mode. See the platforms page.
Checking your own PC

- Open the Display tab in the same tool to find your graphics card.
- Compare each line with the table above, starting with the graphics card and memory.
- Check free space on the drive where you will install the game; you need 135 GB.
