PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro
Deep Silver confirmed that "a 60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing support will be available at launch" on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The first console gameplay trailer, shown at Sony's State of Play on September 3, 2026, was "captured on the PlayStation 5 Pro at 60FPS in Performance Mode".
Deep Silver's gamescom wrap-up describes the same footage as "captured on PS5 Pro performance mode at 4K 60 FPS with Ray Tracing". That is the capture setting on PS5 Pro, not a resolution promise for the standard PS5. Other modes have not been detailed as of 2026-10-14.
Xbox Series X|S
The Xbox Store lists METRO 2039 as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and shows "Play with: Xbox Series X|S and PC". The digital Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Deluxe Edition $99.99 in the US. The store also flags in-app purchases.
The 60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing is confirmed for Xbox Series X. Deep Silver's statement does not mention Xbox Series S, so its modes are not confirmed as of 2026-10-14. Xbox Game Pass availability has not been announced.
PC: Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC
On Steam, METRO 2039 lists single-player, Steam Achievements, full controller support, DualShock and DualSense controller support, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. The Epic Games Store lists cloud saves and single player, and classifies the game as Action, First Person and Shooter.
The Epic Games Store page lists the PC system requirements: a minimum of an Intel Core i5-14600K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 16 GB DDR5 and an RTX 3060, and a recommended RTX 4090 with 64 GB DDR5. Both tiers need 135 GB of storage. Full details are on the system requirements page.
Ray tracing and the 4A Engine
METRO 2039 runs on 4A Games' own 4A Engine, in development for more than 15 years. Deep Silver says it is "the first game in the series to be built from the ground-up for ray tracing". 4A Games' executive producer wrote on the PlayStation Blog that the studio rebuilt its ray-tracing implementation to be "more tuned and performant".
The visuals have already been recognised: METRO 2039 won the gamescom award for Best Visuals in August 2026, according to Deep Silver.
Physical copies by platform
Deep Silver's footnote for the physical editions reads: "PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S only. PC includes code-in-box." That applies to the physical Standard (Day One), Deluxe and Collector's Editions. Which PC store the boxed code activates on is not confirmed as of 2026-10-14. See what's in the box.

On Xbox, the store's "Play with: Xbox Series X|S and PC" line indicates the Xbox version is also playable on PC through Microsoft's ecosystem; check the store's own terms for what a single purchase covers.

How METRO moved to current-generation hardware
4A Games has a history of pushing new hardware. Metro Exodus received a PC Enhanced Edition on May 6, 2021, and native Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions on June 18, 2021. The PlayStation Blog post that revealed METRO 2039 calls the studio "early pioneers of ray-tracing" with Exodus.
The older games are being updated too. A free METRO Redux next-gen update, out October 22, 2026 on PC and October 29 on consoles, adds native PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S support to METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux, with 4K textures, DLSS on PC and Xbox Play Anywhere support. Deep Silver stresses it is "not a full remaster or remake".
