The three Specialist Pouches
-
Equipment Specialist Pouch
For gunsmiths
"For gunsmiths who want to focus on crafting advanced weapons and gear more quickly."
-
Chemtech Specialist Pouch
For explorers
"For explorers who want to brave radioactive areas with more gas mask filters and cleaner, more reliable equipment."
-
Munitions Specialist Pouch
For marksmen
"For marksmen looking to find and use rarer, more powerful ammunition types in their firearms."
The quotes above are Deep Silver's own descriptions from the pre-order announcement of October 13, 2026. The pouches are backpack upgrades that tailor "the way The Stranger scavenges and uses critical resources on his journey into the dark heart of the Moscow Metro".
Only one pouch at a time
The three upgrades are swappable, but Deep Silver is explicit: "you can only equip one at a time – choose wisely!" The pack gives you all three blueprints, so you choose which pouch suits your current situation rather than locking in one for the whole game.
| Pouch | Playstyle | What it helps with |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment Specialist Pouch | Gunsmith | Crafting advanced weapons and gear more quickly |
| Chemtech Specialist Pouch | Explorer | More gas mask filters; cleaner, more reliable equipment in radioactive areas |
| Munitions Specialist Pouch | Marksman | Finding and using rarer, more powerful ammunition |
What are Blueprints?
Blueprints are a new feature in METRO 2039. Deep Silver says they encourage exploration and let you "craft upgrades and attachments for weapons and gear". The Epic Games Store listing adds that you can "discover blueprints" to customise your handcrafted weapons.
The Specialist Pack hands you three of these blueprints at the start. Deep Silver calls them "early unlocks", which suggests the same upgrades can be found through normal play later. That is not spelled out officially as of 2026-10-14.
Which editions include it?
| Edition | Includes Specialist Pack? |
|---|---|
| Standard (digital or physical) | Yes, when pre-ordered |
| Deluxe (digital or physical) | Yes, when pre-ordered |
| Collector's | Yes; Deep Silver says it features the pre-order bonus |
Deep Silver says the Specialist Pack is "available for all pre-ordered editions". You do not need an expensive edition to get it. Compare editions on the editions page.
Which pouch should you pick first?
- Pick Chemtech if you expect long trips through radioactive areas. METRO 2039 asks you to fight radiation and keep gas mask filters topped up, and the game tracks filter time on an in-game watch instead of a traditional HUD.
- Pick Munitions if you prefer gunfights. Ammo management matters: weapons can jam and need maintenance, and rarer ammunition types hit harder.
- Pick Equipment if you like crafting. Crafting and modification let you upgrade the suit, mask, weapons, backpack and items, and this pouch speeds up building advanced gear.
- Swap as you go. Because only one can be equipped at a time, switch to the pouch that fits the next stretch of the journey.
How the bonus fits METRO 2039's survival systems
METRO 2039 is a survival shooter first. According to official descriptions and previews, you craft key resources in the middle of combat, repair degrading gear, recharge electronic devices and manage radiation. Weapons are handcrafted, can jam and need maintenance.
Each pouch leans into one of those pressures: building gear, surviving contaminated air, or making every bullet count. None of them is described as changing the story or unlocking extra missions.
Pre-order bonuses in earlier METRO games
Gameplay bonuses for early buyers are a METRO tradition. The Metro 2033 Limited Edition (2010) included an in-game heavy automatic shotgun. The Metro: Last Light Limited Edition, a free upgrade for pre-orders announced in December 2012, added Ranger Mode, a Ranger load-out with extra military grade bullets and a modified AKS-74U rifle.
The Specialist Pack follows the same idea with a twist: instead of one fixed item, it gives you three upgrades and asks you to choose between them. The history of these editions is on the past editions page.
Pre-order bonus vs Deluxe extras
Do not confuse the two. The Specialist Pack is a gameplay head start that every pre-order gets. The Deluxe extras, the Story Expansion DLC, Digital Art Book and Digital Soundtrack, are content you only get with the Deluxe or Collector's Edition. See the Deluxe Edition guide.
What we don't know yet
- How the Specialist Pack is delivered with physical copies (code or automatic unlock).
- Whether it can be bought separately after launch.
- Whether it is still included with purchases made after launch day.
- The exact in-game numbers behind each pouch's bonus.
We will update this page if Deep Silver publishes more details. Pre-order options are on the pre-order page.
