Editions compared side by side

What every edition shares

The game itself is identical in every edition. All three launch on the same day, on the same platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Every pre-order gets the same Specialist Pack. Gameplay features such as the 60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing on Xbox Series X, PS5 and PS5 Pro do not depend on the edition you buy.

What each step up costs

The first two steps buy content you will use or read. The last step buys a single collectible, which is why the Collector's Edition is best seen as a helmet purchase that happens to include the game.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition is the complete game. Deep Silver's announcement lists it as METRO 2039 plus the pre-order bonus, the Specialist Pack. It costs $69.99 on Steam and the Xbox Store in the US.

A physical Standard Edition exists too. UK retailers sell it as the Day One Edition, priced at £54.95 at The Game Collection for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC (code in a box) as of 2026-10-14. A Dealabs leak before pre-orders listed it at €69.99 and £59.99.

Deluxe Edition

The Deluxe Edition adds three digital extras: the Story Expansion DLC, due in 2027 with details still to come, a Digital Art Book and a Digital Soundtrack. The digital version costs $99.99 in the US, $30 more than the Standard Edition.

The physical Deluxe Edition adds an Exclusive Steelbook and a Hardback Art Book on top of the digital extras. It costs £94.95 at The Game Collection as of 2026-10-14. On Steam, owners of a qualifying digital METRO game get 10% off a Digital Deluxe pre-order. The Deluxe Edition guide goes into detail.

Collector's Edition

The Collector's Edition is the physical Deluxe Edition plus the Wearable Replica Spartan Helmet, a full-scale replica of the Stranger's helmet recreated from the in-game 3D model. It is limited and sold "at selected retailers – while stocks last".

Deep Silver has not announced an official price as of 2026-10-14. UK retailers list it at £259.95 and £279.99. See what's in the box, the helmet guide and the price guide.

It is also the only edition with a real stock risk. Digital editions cannot sell out, while the Collector's Edition is made in limited numbers. Deep Silver warned in August 2026 that it was likely to sell out quickly once pre-orders opened, so decide early if you want one.

Which edition should you buy?

• You just want to play: the Standard Edition. It is the full game, and pre-ordering it still gets you the Specialist Pack.
• You want all the story: the Deluxe Edition, because it includes the Story Expansion DLC due in 2027. Digital is cheapest at $99.99.
• You collect physical games: the physical Deluxe Edition gives you the Steelbook and hardback art book without the helmet's cost.
• You want the helmet: the Collector's Edition is the only way to get it. Expect to pay about £165 more than the physical Deluxe Edition in the UK.
• You play on PC and want a physical box: both physical editions on PC are code-in-box, not discs.
• You own an older METRO game on Steam: check the 10% Digital Deluxe loyalty discount before buying.

Digital or physical?

Digital copies are tied to your store account. On Steam, METRO 2039 lists Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. The Xbox Store says "Play with: Xbox Series X|S and PC" and marks the game as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S.

Physical console copies come on a disc for one platform. The PC physical editions contain a code-in-box, and which PC store that code activates on is not confirmed as of 2026-10-14. If you plan to resell the game later, a console disc is the format that allows it.

Edition availability by platform

Platform details, performance modes and controller support are on the platforms page.

Can you upgrade later?

An upgrade from Standard to Deluxe, or a separate purchase of the Story Expansion DLC, is not confirmed as of 2026-10-14. Deep Silver has only said that the DLC will be released in 2027 and that more details will follow.

The helmet cannot be added later: it is available only inside the Collector's Edition. If you are unsure, the Deluxe Edition is the safer middle choice, and you can still decide on the Collector's Edition while stock lasts at your retailer.

How the editions compare with Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus sold its top collectible, the Spartan Collector's Edition, without the game; buyers had to bundle it with the Aurora Limited Edition to get a copy. METRO 2039's Collector's Edition puts the game, the Deluxe extras and the collectible in one box. The past editions page has the full history.
